History of the Series:


Route 66 ran from October 7, 1960, to March 13, 1964, in a total of 116 episodes.  Throughout its 4-year run, the show ran in an hour slot with approximately 10 minutes devoted to commercial breaks.  Martin Milner starred as "Tod Stiles" in all 116 episodes.  George Maharis starred as "Buz Murdock" for Seasons 1 and 2, and part of Season 3.  Glenn Corbett starred as "Linc Case" for part of Season 3 and all of Season 4.  The show ran on CBS on Friday nights at 8:30 pm.

Black November 10/7/1960 Concord, KY After Tod Stiles' father dies and leaves him nothing but a 1960 Corvette, he and a now unemployed man who had worked for his dad, Buz Murdock, get in the car and head West. Their car breaks down in Garth, Mississippi, which was the site of a POW camp during World War II.  The residents want to keep the town's lynching of an escaped World War II prisoner a secret.  When Tod and Buz learn the secret, their lives are in jeopardy. 
2. A Lance of Straw 10/14/1960 Grand Isle, LA A woman shrimp boat captain hires Tod and Buz to work for her. They run into a hurricane and the captain's jealous suitor who doesn't like the attention Buz is paying to her.
3. The Swan Bed 10/21/1960 New Orleans, LA In New Orleans, Tod and Buz encounter an epidemic of parrot fever, a band of smugglers, and a poor girl whom they ask out on a date.
4. The Man on the Monkey Board 10/28/1960 Denage & Venice, LA While working on an offshore oil-drilling platform, Tod and Buz meet Bartlett (Lew Ayres), a man hunting for an escaped Nazi who had tormented him when he was held in a concentration-camp during World War II.

The Strengthening Angels 11/4/1960 Needles, CA Tod and Buz give a ride to a migrant worker, Lotti Montana (Suzanne Pleshette) whom the local sheriff holds responsible for his brother's death and wants his own brand of justice. try to prevent a vengeful sheriff from meting out his own brand of justice to the woman who killed his brother.
6. Ten Drops of Water 11/11/1960 Kanab, UT Tod and Buz want to help two brothers and their sister on their drought-stricken ranch, but they are too proud to accept it.
7. Three Sides 11/18/1960 Grants Pass, OR Tod and Buz work for a wealthy Oregon rancher, Gerald Emerson (E.G. Marshall) whose children are too spoiled to keep his empire intact.
8. Legacy for Lucia 11/25/1960 Merlin, OR Working as loggers in Oregon, Tod and Buz meet an Italian woman who arrives from Sicily to buy a Madonna statue for her church. To raise money for it, she wants to sell a "deed" given to her by an American GI during WWII.
9. Layout at Glen Canyon 12/2/1960 Glen Canyon Dam & Page, AZ Tod and Buz are hired as bodyguards for a group of models sent to a construction site in Glen Canyon to pose for fashion shots for a magazine. 
10. The Beryllium Eater 12/9/1960 Eureka, AZ Tod and Buz befriend an old prospector who discovers a rare ore, beryllium, and when he refuses to sell his claim to a mine operator, is beaten up.

13. The Quick and the Dead 1/13/1961 Riverside, CA Employed at the Riverside Racetrack, Tod and Buz Tod get involved with a family divided over the father's future as a race-car driver, and Tod gets to race a stock-car.
14. Play It Glissando 1/20/1961 Santa Monica, CA The wife of a well-known jazz trumpeter (Jack Lord) accuses her husband of trying to kill her.  When Tod and Buz get involved, the husband shoots Tod, and the wife goes back to him.
15. The Clover Throne 1/27/1961 Indio, CA Tod and Buz are working for a date farmer (Jack Warden) whose ward is trying to leave at the same time he's trying to stop a road from being built across his property.
16. Fly Away Home - Part 1 2/10/1961 Phoenix, AZ Tod goes to work as a crop-duster for a pilot (Michael Rennie) trying to help a widow and her daughter save their financially troubled crop-dusting business.
17. Fly Away Home - Part 2 2/17/1961 Phoenix, AZ The pilot (Michael Rennie) accepts a dangerous crop-dusting job using sulfur because it means more money for the crop-dusting company.
18. Sleep on Four Pillows 2/24/1961 Hollywood & Los Angeles, CA In Los Angeles, Tod and Buz meet a teenager (Patty McCormack) who says she is being pursued gangsters, but the girl's mother thinks she's been kidnapped and calls the police.
19. An Absence of Tears 3/3/1961 Hollywood, CA A blind widow knows the voices of her husband's murderers and asks Tod and Buz to help her find them.
20. Like a Motherless Child 3/17/1961 Reno, Fallon, & Carson City, NV When Tod and Buz pick up a boy who's run away from an orphanage, Tod wants to return him but Buz doesn't, remembering his own experiences in an orphanage.
21. Effigy in Snow 3/24/1961 Squaw Valley, CA Tod and Buz are at a ski lodge that is being terrorized by a psychotic killer who leaves a woman's body in the snow.
22. Eleven, the Hard Way 4/7/1961 Reno & Broken Knee, NV The citizens of a dying town give their savings to a gambler (Walter Matthau) and send him to Reno to raise money for the town. 
23. Most Vanquished, Most Victorious 4/14/1961 Los Angeles, CA Tod's dying Aunt Kitty sends him and Buz to find her long-missing daughter,  whom they find in a Los Angeles slum.
24. Don't Count Stars 4/28/1961 Sands Hotel,
San Diego, CA
Taking a water skiing break from work at a missile plant in San Diego, Tod and Buz rescue a man who falls off a boat into Mission Bay. Legal guardian for his 9-year-old orphaned niece (who is actually his daughter), the man is an alcoholic who is conned out of $9000 of his niece's money, prompting a banker to challenge his guardianship and make plans to sell the hotel the girl's parents left her. So, Buz keeps the man sober for two days before a hearing, and Tod gets back the money.
25. The Newborn 5/5/1961 Santa Fe, NM Working on a ranch, Tod and Buz befriend a widowed, pregnant Indian girl whose dead husband's father, a wealthy cattleman, wants his grandson born and raised a white man. He tries to hold the woman in his home until the baby is born, but she escapes with Tod and Buz as they move on. She has the baby with help from the guys and then dies. Tod and Buz then evade the cattleman and bring the newborn to his mother's Pueblo father. After a confrontation, the cattleman agrees to let the baby be raised by the Pueblo. Look for a young Robert Duvall as the cattleman's thug, "Roman."
26. A Skill for Hunting 5/12/1961 Santa Fe, NM While camping, Tod and Buz stop a wealthy businessman from illegally killing a deer, so he shoots out Tod's tires and frames him and Buz for poaching. Out on bail paid by the man's wife, Tod and Buz then go to find the man to ask him to tell the truth, and witness him pushing his business partner off a cliff. The man then hunts Tod, Buz, and his wife, but Buz sets up a bear trap and catches him, putting an end to the danger.
27. Trap at Cordova 5/26/1961 Cordova,
Rio Arriba, &
Santa Fe, NM 
Tod and Buz stop to help a man whose cart has overturned. Driving the man and an apparently injured boy to the town of Cordova, Tod is seized by the townspeople for illegal parking and sentenced to a year teaching school. When Buz arrives shortly thereafter in the horse-drawn cart with the other children from the "accident," he too is caught up in the town's scheme to keep its school open despite a cutoff of government funds. Tod goes on a brief hunger strike but soon becomes fond of his students, prompting him to take up the town's cause and convince the state legislature that the town needs a teacher and its own school.
28. The Opponent 6/2/1961 Youngstown, OH Tod and Buz meet Buz's boyhood friend and idol, boxer "Johnny Copa" (Darren McGavin) who, now up in years, makes a living by throwing fights against up and coming young fighters. Before meeting with "Copa" Buz and Tod bet all their money on him, and when they discover his circumstances, they try to get their bet money back before the fight, resulting in a beating for Tod and a bump on the head for Buz. Buz motivates his old friend to win the fight, regain some self-respect, and quit fighting, and Buz and Tod double their money. Look for Edward Asner as the trainer "Scully" and Al Lewis ("Grandpa" on The Munsters) as the Gym Owner.
29. Welcome to Amity 6/9/1961 Kinsman, OH Tod and Buz are working in a factory in the little town of Amity when they meet a former resident, a young woman from Chicago who has returned to move her mother's remains from the town's potters field to the cemetery. Dead ten years, her mother had died in an accident at the age of 37. She was hated by the townspeople as well as her own daughter. No one in town will help dig up the casket, so Tod and Buz help.
30. Incident on a Bridge 6/16/1961 Cleveland, OH Working at a sand and gravel yard in Cleveland and staying at a boardinghouse, Tod and Buz meet the Russian boardinghouse owner's 24-year-old daughter who is mute. A marriage has been arranged for her to a man she hates. Another boarder named "Dvorovoi" (Nehemiah Persoff) kills the man and takes the girl away from her domineering father who views her as deformed. Climbing a catwalk on a bridge, the two disappear.

1. A Month of Sundays 9/22/1961 Butte, MT Buz falls in love with a dying actress with only a few weeks to live.
2. Blue Murder 9/29/1961 Butte, MT Tod and Buz deliver a wild stallion named "Blue Murder" to a rancher who is later found dead.
3. Good Night, Sweet Blues 10/6/1961 Pittsburgh, PA A dying blues singer asks Tod and Buz to find her old band for one last show.
4. Birdcage on My Foot 10/13/1961 Boston, MA Tod and Buz try to help a heroine addict (Robert Duvall).
5. First Class Mouliak 10/20/1961 Cleveland, OH Tod and Buz are working at a steel mill for two men (Nehemiah Persoff and Martin Balsam) whose son and daughter are dating against their wishes.  When the girl dies in an accident, her father leads a lynch mob in search of the boy (Robert Redford).
6. Once to Every Man 10/27/1961 Gloucester, MA Tod and Buz are working on a fishing boat when the owner dies in an accident.  When his daughter takes over his business, she falls in love with Tod.
7. The Mud Nest 11/10/1961 Baltimore, MD In Hester, Maryland, Buz thinks he has found the mother he never knew.
8. A Bridge Across Five Days 11/17/1961 Baltimore, MD Working at a shipyard, Tod and Buz befriend a woman who is having difficulty after being released from a mental hospital.
9. Mon Petit Chou 11/24/1961 Pittsburgh, PA Working on a barge with Buz, Tod falls for a French singer when he sees her waterskiing on the river. He intervenes when her manager/pianist (Lee Marvin) mistreats her.  (Milner broke Marvin's nose during filming of a fight scene on a balcony at a restaurant.)
10. Some of the People, Some of the Time 12/1/1961 Carlisle, PA Tod and Buz discover that a man running a beauty contest (Keenan Wynn) who has promised the winner a movie role is a fraud.
11. The Thin White Line 12/8/1961 Philadelphia, PA At a party, Tod drinks a beer laced with LSD intended for another man as a prank.He goes through stages of sleepiness, aggression, and paranoia as he hallucinates, running through the city streets as Buz and the police try to catch him before he hurts himself. When a policeman locates him hiding under a bridge, Tod assaults him, takes his gun, shoots at a patrol car appraoching with Buz inside, and climbs up the bridge, where he stands ready to jump to his death. Buz catches up with him and talks him down.
12. And the Cat Jumped Over the Moon 12/15/1961 Philadelphia, PA When a youth (James Caan) quits a gang, another (Martin Sheen) takes his place. Tod and Buz are caught up in the gang warfare that follows.
13. Burning for Burning 12/29/1961 Boiling Springs, PA Tod and Buz are working on a chicken farm and meet a woman who doesn't like her son's widow, and tries to make trouble for her.
14. To Walk with the Serpent 1/5/1962 Boston, MA Tod and Buz help a government agent thwart a conspiracy to overthrow the government.
